Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 is an indie 2.5D horror survival fangame directed by Dorbledoo, inspired by Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. It is a stylized fangame with a goofy art style, blending 2D and 3D assets. Its main gimmick allows players to continuously change and expand their nights with animatronics of their choosing.
After launching the first two installments on Scratch, director Dorbledoo decided to expand the experience into a trilogy. The third installment of the series, Five Nights at Frickbear's 3, is being developed using the GameMaker: Studio engine. Dorbledoo would garner a community by sharing updates on Twitter/X, leading to the release of a demo on October 23, 2024. This demo features half of the game's content, with the remaining content expected to be released at an unspecified date in the future.
The plot of Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 follows one of four selectable protagonists: Jeremy Fitzgerald, Mike Schmidt, Vanessa Shelly, and Fritz Smith. During their shift, they come across an array of animatronics who are adamant on reaching the Office through various methods. As a result of a series of night-guards suddenly dying on the job, the player is instructed by The Boss to investigate a series of abandoned restaurants. Shortly after their second night, one of three characters sees benefit in the players position to find their desired entity.
Currently, a release date for the full version of the game has yet to have been revealed.

Description[]
Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 is a FNaF fangame with a big focus on player choice and replayability, featuring a uniquely goofy art style, a metric buttload of unique animatronic enemies, 3D free-roam minigames, and multiple story routes!
The demo for this game features three playable night guards, the first two nights, the post-night minigame between them, and 20 of the final game's planned 40 animatronics. There may be some additional secrets and alternate endings for you to uncover as well...but you'll just have to play it to find out! BEFORE YOU PLAY: Despite being the third entry in the series, you do NOT have to play Frickbear's 1 or 2 to understand anything in this game! This entry and its story are completely self-contained. Additionally, this is an early build of the game, so you may run into a bug or two! I've already been made aware of a bug with the resolution on certain peoples' computers. If the game's text seems crunchier than it should be, I'd suggest messing around with the graphics options in the settings menu and switching to the "Full Color" filter, since in our testing that one doesn't seem to have the issue. All that aside, I hope you have fun! If you have any feedback, feel free to leave a comment. |
Gameplay[]
Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 takes a unique approach to its gameplay by offering a continuous quick-time experience that challenges players to conserve their power while facing a variety of threats, specifically up to 40 different animatronics that can sabotage or end their night. The game begins by introducing five animatronics into the gameplay loop, but after each night, players have the opportunity to salvage two additional animatronics, which then become active threats in subsequent nights. The choice of protagonist also plays a crucial role in gameplay, as each character represents a different difficulty level. The player can select from easy mode, experienced mode, hard mode, or lunatic mode. All these choices encourage replayability as a unique story is also present in the game, featuring different dialog for each protagonist with four different routes in store.
Unlike most fangames, all animatronics are active starting from Night 1, with the demo offering 20 characters to be unlocked including: Endoskeleton, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, Withered Freddy, Withered Foxy, Golden Freddy, and Springtrap. Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, and Toy Chica can be obtained by beating the two nights on a specific difficult. Locating Michael and snatching the Freddy mask rewards the player with Shadow Freddy, salvaging Springtrap and locating Vanny will reward the player with RWQFSFASXC, and doing both tasks during the same playthrough leads to meeting Susie and unlocking JJ. Mangle can be unlocked after unlocking all characters. Animatronics without a specific condition to unlock can be salvaged during the Salvage sequences, which is a free-roam story-driven segment of the game featuring Psychic Friend Fredbear to assist and task the player. The player can only leave these sequences upon salvaging an animatronic, otherwise the player can additionally interact with certain objects to earn new minigames or even endings.
Bonnie the Bunny is the most prominent threat who activates shortly after the night begins. He starts from the Show Stage and moves towards the Dining Area, with audio cues of footsteps to help players track his movements throughout the location. After reaching the Dining Area, Bonnie will progress into the Staff Hallway. After moving away from the Staff Hallway, he will appear at the left door, showcasing his distinctive blue hue and two pairs of white pupils. If players fail to close the door in time, they'll be met with a jumpscare. The window to close the door becomes shorter during Night 2, increasing the challenge.
Chica the Chicken is the second most prominent threat, operating nearly identical to Bonnie. She begins on the Show Stage and then moving to the Dining Area. However, instead of entering the Staff Hallway, Chica progresses into the Restroom Hallway. She will then emerge from the Office at the right door, requiring players to close the right door to counter her threat.
Marionette differs from majority of the default cast as she will exclusively stay on the Entrance camera. Periodically throughout the night, the Marionette will activate from her slumber as a result of the music box malfunctioning. When the Marionette activates, a hazard sign with the Marionette's face inside of it will flash whilst the camera is down and on the map interface when on the cameras. The player must make their way to the camera and reset the music box with its respective button on the top of the feed in order to reset Marionette temporarily.
Freddy Fazbear is the third and final antagonist to leave the Show Stage, combining elements of both Bonnie and Chica's mechanics. After leaving the Show Stage, he will progress into the Dining Area and can choose to enter either the Staff Hallway or the Restroom Hallway, even if Bonnie or Chica are already in those rooms. With each movement, Freddy lets out his iconic laugh, and after the third laugh, he will appear in front of either the left or right door. His pupils are not visible in the darkness, but he can be seen clearly on the feed. The player must quickly close the corresponding door; failing to do so results in a jumpscare.
Foxy the Pirate is the least prominent among them within the demo. He has unique mechanics that allow him to be countered in two different ways. Foxy can be observed hiding in the Pirate's Cove camera, where he has a total of five phases until he exits the room. The player can either stall his progress by occasionally checking the camera or allow him to exit, which leads him to make a dash toward the player's Office. If Foxy does leave Pirate's Cove, he can be countered by closing the left door to prevent him from entering, otherwise the player has a short window before he jumpscares the player.
Balloon Boy is the final antagonist to activate, introducing the Ventilation camera tab for players who haven’t already encountered a character linked to the Ventilation system. Unlike other animatronics that require players to lure them away, Balloon Boy rarely follows audio distractions and must be dealt with directly as he tries to enter the Office. As he exits the ventilation system from one of two possible exits, he will begin laughing, signaling his presence within the Office. To counteract Balloon Boy, the player must quickly equip the Freddy mask. Failure to do so will allow him to enter the Office, resulting in the Flashlight temporarily being disabled.
Plot[]
Five Nights at Frickbear's 3 serves as a prequel to Five Nights at Frickbear's 1 and Five Nights at Frickbear's 2, set a few years after the company's bankruptcy in 2004. Originally Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, the restaurant was renamed Freddy Frickbear's Pizzeria by a new owner who found the name silly. On the inside, however, many employees engage in misbehavior or make unauthorized decisions; for instance, Ralph hides a hatchet that locks the Safe Room when employees were instructed to open the Safe Room. The restaurant faces issues with incompetent workers, with only those who take their job seriously ultimately falling victim to the animatronics.
As of the demo's release, three night guards share their backgrounds before starting their first shifts. The final playable character has been revealed to the wiki.
- Jeremy Fitzgerald is the first night-guard, representing the easy difficulty. He details his history with twelve individual jobs, all which resulted in him being injured and fired. Jeremy took the summer job at Freddy Frickbear's Pizzeria in hopes of covering his tuition.
- Mike Schmidt is the second night-guard, representing the experienced difficulty. Due to a lacking resume, his career counselor instructed him to take the job at Freddy Frickbear's Pizza. Seen as his last resort at taking a job, Mike vows to not slack off during his shift.
- Vanessa Shelley is the third night-guard, representing the hard difficulty. With vast knowledge of Freddy Frickbear's Pizza, and feeling overwhelmed with her duties in the Freddy Frickbear's Mega Pizzaplex, she requested to transfer to a smaller location. As one of a lacking amount of remaining locations, she was transferred to Freddy Frickbear's Pizza.
- Fritz Smith is the fourth night guard, representing the lunatic difficulty level. He was hired on short notice with little information about his background. During his shifts, he becomes fascinated with the animatronics' inner workings and expresses a desire to tamper with them, mimicking his reason for termination in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Depending on the player's choices throughout the game, they can be awarded one of three different ally's which determine the games ending. These allies include Michael Afton, Vanny, or Susie, each in pursuit of their desired goal. Michael aims to collect four different animatronic masks for unknown reasons. Vanny wishes to gather four specific animatronics into one place, mimicking the plot of Five Nights at Freddy's: Pizzeria Simulator. According to the demo, Springtrap is one of these animatronics. Susie simply locates the player following their shift and asks for her lost dog. Beyond this point, not much is known, except for the fates of Phone Guy and Phone Geek, both of whom met tragic ends while in the location.
Phone Guy was outlined to be an employee responsible for salvaging the animatronics at various locations; a job which is eventually carried out to the player by The Boss following their first shift with the added "overtime" bonus. Phone Guy met his ultimate demise when he was crushed by a locker that was filled with heavy tungsten blocks. As for Phone Geek, just as he makes his way towards the exit of the restaurant, he carelessly trips on the same locker which the Phone Guy is crushed under, suffering fatal head trauma upon hitting the floor.
